Position Summary:

The Electrocardiography Technician is a caregiver who assists in the performance of the electrocardiogram. Responsibilities include: preparing the patient and obtaining a diagnostic quality tracing; downloading; editing and distributions of ECG/EKGs; verification of orders and billing; and filing of cardiology reports. 

  

Major Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Prepares the patient for the test by explaining the process and by instructing the patient prior to the test.
  • Performs a proper skin prep, (including shaving if necessary to obtain good lead contact) and accurate lead placement.
  • Operates ECG/EKG equipment, including specialized equipment such as treadmills and ECG/EKG carts.
  • Records the ECG/EKG and sends it to the archival system.
  • Screens the ECG/EKG for gross arrhythmias or ST changes and reports such events of concern to the physician.
  • Maintains accurate & complete computer files for procedures and assist with any other paperwork as needed.
  • Maintains equipment in operating order and notifies supervisor of needed repairs.
  • Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills when interacting with others.
  • Responds to all acute emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Assist with training of electrocardiograph new employee technicians.
  • Performs treadmills in cardiology.

Qualifications:

  • 1 year clinical ECG/EKG experience required.
  • Knowledge of ECG/EKG equipment, including specialized equipment such as treadmills and ECG/EKG carts.
  • Knowledge of computer software.
  • Knowledge of patient care.

Education: 

  • High School diploma or GED, required.

Certifications:

  • ECG/EKG certification, required, from National Healthcareer Association (NHA), preferred.
  • Current BLS certification, required upon hire; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.

*Salary/Hourly wage range for this position is posted.  Actual pay will be determined based on verified experience as well as internal equity.
