Position Summary:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) is a professional caregiver who performs cardiopulmonary diagnostics, therapeutics and monitors within his/her scope of practice per TCMC physician approved policies, procedures and protocols. This position maintains professional standards of conduct and ethics as outlined in hospital and department expectations and professional organizations.  The employee provides education to patients, families, caregivers and other health professionals.   The RCP demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patients'/caregivers' rights, as identified within the institution. Pulmonary Function Technologists may complete the same duties as RCPs and provide additional specialized testing of patients (PFTs). The RCP follows/adheres to guidelines of care. 

 

Major Position Responsibilities:

The position characteristics reflect the most important duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job in a fully competent manner. The characteristics of the position and standards of performance may be changed by TCMC with or without prior notice based on the needs of the organization.

  • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Provide respiratory care therapies or diagnostics to patients and maintains specific level of RCP I or RCP II competencies.
  • Provide respiratory education to patients, family members or other healthcare providers (all levels).
  • Ensure accurate documentation of therapies provided (all levels).
  • Ensure accurate charging for therapies provided (all levels).
  • Duties may include but are not limited to: General floor care, adult critical intensive care, emergency department, Rapid Response Team member, assisting with bronchoscopy, bedside pulmonary function testing or other diagnostic testing.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year experience in acute care respiratory therapy, preferred.
  • Experience in Bronchoscopy resourcing, preferred.
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation experience, desired.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.

Education: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Care, required.

Licenses:

  • Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner license, required.

Certifications:

  • Current BLS certification, required upon hire; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
  • Current ACLS certification, required upon hire; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
  • RCP I: Registered Respiratory Therapist, preferred.

 

Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work. 

 

*Salary/Hourly wage range for this position is posted.  Actual pay will be determined based on verified experience as well as internal equity.
