Position Summary:
The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) will oversee and positively influence the delivery of optimal, safe, quality nursing care and regulatory compliance while providing leadership to staff by being an effective resource, role model, mentor and change agent. The ANM requires demonstration of leadership, clinical and interpersonal skills. The ANM is responsible for the day to day operations of their patient care unit or department while collaborating with the leadership team on staff performance and adherence to policy and procedures.

- Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
- Rounds on patients and families to ensure staff meet our service excellence standards and performs service recovery as needed for patient satisfaction.
- Communicates in an effective and professional manner and provide conflict resolution.
- Participate in nursing and organizational policy formation and decision-making involving staff as shared accountability for nursing practice and evidence-based practice.
- Accepts Unit/Department accountability for services provided to patients. to include unit meeting performance goals in quality, operations, finance and regulatory compliance.
- Intercedes as a patient advocate; coordinate nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and assist in integrating services across the continuum of healthcare.
- Collaborates with the different departments to improve work flow processes and give guidance for patient flow and throughput.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel.
- Assess the impact of, and plan strategies to address such issues as:
- Ethical issues related to health care and respect for the individual rights and preferences.
- Plan of care for the patient and standards of care are followed.
- Assume responsibility for staffing and unit schedules and submit to the manager for approval. Assignments reflect appropriate utilization of personnel, considering scope of practice, competencies, patient needs and complexity of care.
- Coordinates, facilitates or participates in departmental quality projects with follow through and appropriate follow up. Attends department and hospital committees as assigned.
- Evaluate performance of personnel and new staff and provides timely feedback and coaching, and conducts performance appraisals when applicable.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the budget to include meeting productivity standards for area of responsibility.
- Advocate for a work environment that minimizes work-related illness and injury.
- Take personal accountability for professional growth and development.
- Able to pronounce the expired patient.
- Knowledgeable of the Administrative Supervisor role with the ability to perform in the role.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of (Two) 2 years acute care experience in area(s) of responsibility, required.
- Minimum of (One) 1 year of recent Charge Nurse or other management/supervisory experience, required.
- Knowledge of the scope of practice for staff, application of the nursing process, and implementation of the individualized plan of care.
- Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively.
- Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
- Able to use computer and learn new software programs.
- Able to provide patient care.
Education:
- BSN from an accredited university, preferred.
Licenses:
- Current California RN Licensure, required.
Certifications:
- Current BLS; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider, required (all departments).
- National Certification in area of expertise, preferred.
Required certification(s) in area(s) of responsibility include:
- MS Ortho 1 North & Acute Rehab: N/A
- 2P Oncology: ONS chemotherapy & biotherapy provider, required within 6 months of hire or transfer
- 4P Monitored Medical Unit: N/A
- Progressive Care Unit: ONS chemotherapy & biotherapy provider, required within 6 months of hire or transfer, NIH SS, and ACLS
- Telemetry: ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale
- Intensive Care Unit: ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale
- Emergency Department: ACLS, PALS, and NIH Stroke Scale; NVCI within 90 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
- Surgery: ACLS
- PACU: ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale
- Cardiac Cath Lab: ACLS
- Interventional Radiology: ACLS
