Position Summary:

The Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) at the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) level is a vital part of the telemetry team, responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This role requires advanced competencies, specialized certifications, and a strong ability to function autonomously while collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to ensure patient safety and optimal patient outcomes.

 

Major Position Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
    • Responsible for monitoring and caring for patients who require continuous cardiac monitoring.
    • Performing detailed assessments, respond to acute changes in patient’s cardiac rhythms, neurological status and overall condition.
    • Administer medications, including non-titratable drips, and monitor for therapeutic effects.
    • Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients with cardiac, neurological and related conditions.
    • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring dignity and
    • Demonstrate empathy and compassion for patient
    • Provide education to patients and families about medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
    • Advocate for evidence-based practices in telemetry care
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Maintain a safe, clean working environment, adhering to infection control and hospital policies.
    • Comply with regulatory standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, OSHA).
    • Report safety hazards and participate in quality improvement efforts
  • Documentation:
    • Accurately document patient care, interventions and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to Patient Standards of
  • Professional Development and Leadership:
    • Provide preceptorship and mentorship to New Graduate Nurses, New Hires, and students, supporting their professional development.
    • Engage in continuing education and unit-based
    • Serve as a resource for best practices within the Telemetry
    • Act as Relief Charge Nurse as needed
  • Emergency Preparedness:
    • Respond promptly to cardiac emergencies (e.g., arrhythmias, chest pain) with advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications:

Qualifications RN Experience/Transitional RN Program:

  • Experience Requirement
    • Experienced Telemetry RN: Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a telemetry or equivalent intermediate care setting, required.
    • Transitional RN Program: Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care, or equivalent setting, required.
  • Provide post-procedure care (post-cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, 24-hour post CABG, and Watchmen procedures).
  • Proficiency in Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) interpretation, and arrhythmia recognition and management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring quick decision making and strong teamwork.

 

Competencies:

  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in working with centralized cardiac monitoring systems
  • Critical Thinking:
    • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to respond to acute changes in patient conditions.
  • Communication:
    • Strong patient care and communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or may consider Associate Degree, Nursing (ADN) with five (5) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in a telemetry or equivalent intermediate care unit in lieu of BSN, required

 

Licenses:

  • Current California RN License, Required

Certifications:

  • Current BLS; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider,
  • Current ACLS; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certification,
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification,
  • Current ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate, required (Progressive Care Unit Only)
    • Transitional RN Program: Must obtain certificate within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult), or equivalent certificate, preferred.

 

Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.
