Position Summary:

The Clinical Educator facilitates the enhancement of nursing cognitive skills and competency for assigned areas. The clinical educator works collaboratively with the management team to maximize patient outcomes and clinical practice. This individual functions as an educator, leader, expert practitioner, mentor and consultant for nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Supports the mission and values of the Medical Center, and acts as a role model relative to the Medical Center’s Service Excellence Initiative.

 

Major Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit-based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Provides clinical education to staff.
  • Coordinates all new hire orientation and staff development.
  • Functions as an expert practitioner, mentor and consultant for nurses and other disciplines.
  • Participates on committees and task forces representing clinical area.
  • Promotes evidence-based practice in the clinical setting.
  • Ensures all staff competencies are complete.
  • Attends leadership meetings and completes assignments in a timely manner.
  • Promotes patient, physician, and staff satisfaction.
  • Promotes and monitors safety, infection control and performance standards in clinical area.

 

Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of related clinical experience, required.
  • Two (2) years teaching or education position, preferred.

Competencies:

  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient computer skills required. Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and willingness to learn other software packages as needed, required.
    • Proficient in operating related equipment and technology as applicable to the department.
    • Excellent organizational skills, required.
  • Critical Thinking:
    • Rapid decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to dynamic cases.
  • Communication:
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to support a collaborative team environment

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), required. (Effective 7/1/2025 for New Hires or Transfers)
  • Master's degree in a related field, preferred.

Licenses:

  • Current California Registered Nurse license, required.

Certification:

  • Current BLS certification; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider, required.
  • Current ACLS; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider, required (ED, ICU, Telemetry, PCU, Surgical Services: OR & PACU, & Procedural Areas: Cath Lab & IR).
  • NVCI within 90 days of hire or transfer, required (ED only).
  • Current PALS, required (ED only).
  • NIH SS within 90 days of hire or transfer, required (ED, ICU, PCU, PACU and Telemetry)
  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate (Acute Care Oncology & PCU only) within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • Certification Specific to Specialty required or obtained within one (1) year of hire or transfer:

    • ICU: CCRN (Critical Care RN) or equivalent certification
    • Telemetry & PCU: CCRN or PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) or equivalent certification
    • Acute Care: Orthopedic Nurses Certification (ONC), Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification (CMSRN), or equivalent certification
    • Emergency: CCRN or CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) or equivalent certification
    • Surgical Services (Surgery, PACU): CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) or equivalent certification
    • Procedural Areas (IR & Cath Lab): CCRN, RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) or CRN (Certified Radiology Nurse) or equivalent certification

Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.
