Position Summary:
The MRI Technologist conducts MRI Exams to help provide the best diagnosis and treatment of a disease. This person possesses strong interpersonal skills to relate with patient’s unique needs. The MRI Tech provides and environment which will exceed the expectations of every patient by treating them with the utmost care, compassion and respect, to secure a standard of service that allows the patient’s experience to be extraordinary. Ensures patient registration is completed. Participates in marketing and public relations activities to promote the MRI center.
Major Position Responsibilities:

- Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
- Manage requisitions and physicians orders in the Cerner EMR application
- Modify, start and complete exams in the RadNet application within Cerner’s EMR
- Initiates contact with patients in a friendly, courteous and professional manner
- Performs Diagnostic MRI exam as prescribed by physicians, following all MRI magnetic precautions
- Completes MRI safety screening documentation
- Completes MRI contrast screening documentation
- Performs all necessary record keeping and documentation that is required of MRI
- Follows all aspects of the American College of Radiology guidance on MRI safe practices.
- Maintains a safe and appropriate work area
- Maintains inventory of supplies, such as IV contrast, syringes, etc.
- Stocks MRI room with supplies such as pillow cases, pillow covers and blankets as needed at the end of every working day
- Cleans MRI gantry, table and equipment with appropriate disinfectant wipes between patient exams at the end of every working day
- Takes responsibility for general cleanliness and appearance of MRI room
- Notifies X-ray Supervisor of any problems that occur in department such as MRI machine problems after tech support is called
- Treats patients with dignity when having them change for an MRI exam
- Maintains proper Quality control procedure daily
- Answers phone calls if not setting up or performing an MRI exam
- Explains to patients the procedure when they request a copy of MRI on CD. Explains the procedure of HIPAA regulations
- Maintains full compliance with ICAMRL and/or ACR Accreditation policies
- Clocks in on computer promptly and works and work station at assigned time
- Reviews all posted items, newsletters, memos, emails and other information and communications to stay abreast of current events and process changes within the organization
- Comes to work clean and dressed professionally
- Follows all aspects of the American College of Radiology guidance on MRI safe practices.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 to 12 months of experience in a health care setting.
- Strong background in customer service.
- Competencies in the areas of leadership, teamwork and cooperation.
- Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity.
- Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology.
- Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of patient and client information.
- Ability to enter and retrieve data from computer
- Ability to operate modern office business machinery
- Ability to operate the GE 1.5 T Excite 8 channel MRI machine or current equipment platform.
- Ability to use MRI coils and shields on patients
- Ability to use and administer IV contrast
- Ability to maintain a safe and appropriate work area, Maintain inventory of supplies
- Ability to use the new film viewing system “MYSIS, CENTRICITY, ECHOES” and/or McKesson PACS
- Ability to burn and import the CD’s into PACS system
- Ability to effectively interact with colleagues, clinic staff, patients, public, tech support personnel, physicians and their staff
- Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to present ideas in a business-friendly and user-friendly language; Highly self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detail; team-oriented, collaborative; ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints from employees and clients. Ability to speak clearly and to make effective and persuasive arguments and presentations
Education:
- High School Diploma, prefer a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business or Medical Assisting OR equivalent experience
Certifications:
- Certified MRI technologist in the ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT.
- California Venipuncture certification within 6 months of hire
- Current BLS certification, required upon hire; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.
