Position Summary:

The Program Nurse is responsible for coordinating and implementing program services to meet the medical and medication management needs of the patients.  This includes close collaboration with the attending physicians, affiliated pharmacy, and Program Clinical Coordinator.

 

 

Major Position Responsibilities:

The position characteristics reflect the most important duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job in a fully competent manner.   • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Conducts nursing assessments on new patients.
  • Supervises patient medications, maintains stock and PRN medications supply and upkeep of medical equipment.
  • Coordinates all laboratory procedures, including Infection Control responsibilities.
  • Arranges for treatment of patients’ medical needs, when necessary.
  • Communicates effectively with the team structure to maintain a therapeutic milieu.
  • Conducts psycho-educational and individual patient education when necessary and completes appropriate documentation.
  • Serves as a member of the Treatment Team.
  • Contacts others involved in patient care retarding medication/medical treatment issues, as needed.
  • Participates as a team member in crisis intervention; assists in 5150 procedures.
  • Coordinates and schedules patient session with attending physicians.
  • Documents as needed in the medical record.
  • Notes physician orders and follows through as needed.
  • Coordinates physician documentation in the medical record; reviews progress notes and admission assessments; tracks physician documentation compliance.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement program as requested by the Operations Manager of Outpatient Behavioral Health.

Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years’ experience working with patients with serious and persistent mental illness, preferably of those years in an in-patient setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of psychiatric diagnoses, psychopharmacology, terminology, and medical record documentation.
  • Experience in facilitation of psycho-educational groups.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively utilizing both written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands in a calm and controlled manner.
  • In certain positions there will be a minimum of one year of RN verifiable clinical experience required

Education: 

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred.

Licenses:

  • Current CA RN license, required.

Certifications:

  • Current BLS certification, required upon hire; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
  • NVCI within 90 days of hire or transfer, required. 

 

 

Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.

 

*Salary/Hourly Wage range based on experience.
