Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the provision of clinical services in support of patients suffering from mental distress at Tri-City Medical Center. Functions as an integral member of a team that performs in-depth psychiatric evaluations of patients.

 

Major Position Responsibilities:

The position characteristics reflect the most important duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job in a fully competent manner.   • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Conducts assessments and coordinates for the safe admission, transfer, referral, or other appropriate disposition of patients according to their needs.
  • Serves as a liaison to the community and responds to law enforcement, friends, families, and others in the coordination of appropriate treatment for patients who are experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
  • Responsible for ensuring the appropriate placement for patients requiring admission or transfer. Patients not requiring inpatient services are assisted with appropriate outpatient referrals.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate pertinent aspects of nursing care of patients with behavioral health problems and/or patients.
  • Acts as a clinical resource nurse to other team members for medical differential diagnosis, interpretation of medical disorders and maintains expert level of skill in this area.
  • This individual will ensure that patients are triaged to the optimal level of care through the appropriate utilization of resources and excellent behavioral health care.
  • Work with the psychiatric problems of the patients as they are presented to the nursing staff.
  • Consider nurses’ input about perceived patient’s issues, especially when those feelings interfere with patient care and healing.
  • Provide direct support for the Leaders of the Patient Care Areas.
  • The individual must consistently support the mission and values of the Medical Center.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year in a related field, required.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of the fundamental clinical skills of planning, organizing, facilitating, coordinating, collaborating, and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be dependable, have integrity, initiative, tact, ability to work on details, ability to learn and possess a sense of values and ethical standards.
  • Certification in by a nationally recognized nursing or clinical organization preferred.
  • Experience with Psychiatric Liaison Nurse role and PET, preferred
  • Leadership demonstration of openness to change thorough implementation of creative programs that support achievement of strategic initiatives.
  • Self-learning needs and strategies to enhance current competency to respond to new leadership demands
  • Previous educational experience and knowledge of adult learning theory
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work with teams, and provide oversight to ensure complex project completion
  • Previous experience with computer applications and system implementation
  • Must also have the ability to train and develop other personnel by providing them with the knowledge gained through years of experience on the job.
  • Possess knowledge of the business of health care along the continuum of care, clinical decision support data analysis/synthesis, and quality improvement, regulatory and legislative issues.

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, required.
  • Master's degree in related healthcare field or MSN, preferred.

 

Licenses:

  • Current California RN license required. 

 

Certifications:

  • Current BLS; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider,
  • NVCI within 90 days of hire or transfer, required.
