Overview

Position Summary:

 

Performs professional functions relating to providing appropriate drug information participating in all clinical programs, dispensing, and compounding of drugs.  Has responsibility for drug control within the pharmacy and distribution throughout the hospital. Assists in other areas as directed by the Director of Pharmacy.  In the absence of the Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Supervisor or Clinical Coordinator assumes responsibility for the operation of the Pharmacy.

 

Major Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides appropriate drug information for all clinical programs.
  • Compound and dispense drugs according to policy.
  • Responsible for drug control and distribution throughout the hospital.
  • Assumes responsibility for the operation of the hospital pharmacy. 

Safety and Infection Control Responsibilities

  • Responsible to maintain a safe and clean work environment, including unit based specific safety and infection control requirements.

 

Qualifications: ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, & EXPERIENCE

  • · Must have current knowledge of drugs, their actions, availability, and I.V. incompatibility, required.
  • · Maintains a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education per license period (2 years), required.
  • · Be professionally competent in all phases of pharmaceutical care.
  • · Experience with controlled substances, preferred.
  • · Oncology experience, preferred (OP Infusion Oncology department only) 

Education: 

  • Pharm D or PhD, required.
  • Pharm D with PGY1, preferred.

Licenses:

  • Current license by the California State Board of Pharmacy, required.

Certifications:

  • ACLS or Pharmacy Advanced Resuscitation Training, required.

Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.
