  • Overview

    Position Summary:

    The Women’s and Newborn Services (WNS) Supervisor will directly supervise and positively influence the delivery of optimal, safe, quality nursing care and regulatory compliance while providing leadership to staff by being an effective resource, role model, mentor and change agent. Along with the WNS Nurse Manager, the WNS Supervisor will support the operational management of all of WNS units (NICU, L&D, Mother/Baby).  The WNS Supervisor is responsible to evaluate, assess and monitor staff performance and adhere to policy and procedures.


    Major Position Responsibilities:

    • Serves as a professional role model, leader, mentor and clinical resource for nursing staff and other members of the healthcare team.
    • Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of healthcare delivery.
    • Intercede as a patient advocate; coordinate nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and assist in integrating services across the continuum of healthcare.
    • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel.
    • Oversee the staffing and scheduling personnel.
    • Support nursing autonomy through a philosophy of shared accountability for nursing practice.
    • Advocate for a work environment that minimizes work-related illness and injury.
    • Exercise supervisory responsibilities over the staff and provides timely intervention, including disciplining of employees as may be consistent with hospital policy, when infractions are suspected.
    • Maintains working knowledge of local health care issue, community and regulatory standards and monitors the department for regulatory compliance, cleanliness, and that optimal patient care is being provided.

    Safety and Infection Control Responsibilities

    Responsible to maintain a safe and clean work environment, including unit based specific safety and infection control requirements.



    • Minimum of three (3) years of current/recent clinical experience in one of the areas (NICU, L&D, and/or Mother/Baby) required, but prefer additional experience in NICU.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of recent Charge Nurse or other management experience preferred



    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
    • BSN, required or obtained within 18 months of hire or transfer.



    • Current California RN Licensure, required


    • Certification in either L&D, Mother/Baby or NICU required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
    • Current NRP, required
    • Current BLS, required


    Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work
