Collects co-payments, deductibles, and other cash payments as needed.  Balances daily payment sheets.  Routes patient demographics to pertinent departments.  Demonstrates extraordinary commitment to excellence by adhering to department excellence criteria.   Major Position Responsibilities: The position characteristics reflect the most important duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job in a fully competent manner. They should not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements of the position. The characteristics of the position and standards of performance may be changed by TCMC with or without prior notice based on the needs of the organization. - Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements. - Maintains excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with co-workers, TCMC staff, patients, physicians, and the public. - Interviews patient or representative and enters complete information into the computer. Obtains all pertinent signatures, insurance information, and financial data to protect the hospital’s financial reimbursement. - Performs special assigned duties to meet the needs of the department. - Assumes cashiering responsibilities after hours and weekends. - Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits within a timeframe determined by TCMC and obtains pre-authorizations from third-party payers in accordance with payer requirements. - Verifies medical necessity in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards and communicates relevant coverage/eligibility information to the patient. - Verifies insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization. Notifies patient of any deposits/deductibles needed prior to registration.  - Obtains estimates for procedure cost upon patients - Assures that the patient is appropriate to withstand routine registration procedures; is escorted to the proper service area; and has had their questions and concerns answered. Qualifications: - One (1) year healthcare insurance verification or billing or third payer authorization experience, required. - Requires typing skills of 35 wpm, and data entry/CRT experience.  - Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.  Education:  - High school diploma or GED, required.     Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.   **To protect the health of patients and staff, and to comply with the new State of California mandates, all job offers are contingent on the successful engagement in the TCMC COVID-19 vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral.)**   TCHD is an equal opportunity employer. Helps distribute new and updated information. Provides input and support to overall organization. Acts as liaison between team and leadership. - Performs duties of the supervisor in their absence with the exception of evaluations, counseling, and disciplinary actions. - Receives unscheduled absence/tardy calls and makes arrangements for coverage in absence of supervisor. Performs all registration functions with emphasis on accuracy. - Collaborates with other departments to problem solve ongoing issues that impact department/organizational goals and patient care delivery. - Completes quality reviews addressing ED Registration holds and/or delinquent data items with collection of data to reflect edits and team members involved in the original registration. - Responds to hospital disaster plan as needed. - Works with supervisor/manager to maintain and update departmental Policy & Procedure Manuals annually. - Assigns work to staff. - Complete POS collections to meet departmental goals. - Assists with QA process to insure accuracy. Qualifications: - Requires 3 years’ experience in hospital or medical office registration, insurance verification and billing. - Requires typing skills of 35 wpm. - Requires 3-years’ experience in data entry/CRT experience and 1 year demonstrated working knowledge of medical terminology. - Minimum 2 years of lead experience, required. - Direct experience with Cerner registration and/or Quadramed billing system, preferred. - Must be computer literate, with Microsoft Office application knowledge in Outlook and Excel. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent human relations’ skills including listening, conflict resolution, coaching, and team building. - Must have ability to demonstrate flexibility in response to unexpected change in work volume and hospital staffing needs. - Process oriented skills with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously by prioritizing responsibilities and meeting deadlines required. - Ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients and the confidentiality of hospital and departmental documents required. - Working knowledge of Managed Care and obtaining authorizations for payment from various HMO’s, PPO’s, EPO’s, POS’s, Commercial Payers, Government Agencies including Medi-cal, CCS, CMS and other funding sources. Qualifications: - Minimum of 3 years clinical and case management experience in acute care setting, preferred. - Knowledge of Prospective Payment System and JCAHO standards and regulatory requirements pertaining to Utilization Management and Discharge Planning desirable. - Ability to communicate effectively utilizing both written and verbal skills. The Diabetes Educator works collaboratively with the management team and physicians to maximize patient outcomes and clinical practice. The characteristics of the position and standards of performance may be changed by TCMC with or without prior notice based on the needs of the organization. - Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements. - Assesses nutritional needs of patients with includes a diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus (Type I and II), Gestational Diabetes, Glucose Intolerant, Pre-Diabetes, or as ordered by attending Physician. - Assess nutritional needs of patients with need of glucose control - Provides diabetes education to patients and staff - Educates patients on appropriate care plan for glucose control - Develop educational materials and visual tools for patient education. - Functions as an expert practitioner, mentor and consultant for patients as requested by nurses and other disciplines. - Participates on committees and task forces representing clinical area. - Promotes evidence based practice in the clinical setting. - Participates in multidisciplinary rounds. - Rounds on patients in ARU to aid in home diabetes medication regimens. - Rounds on patients with insulin pumps. - Collaborates with Diabetes Medical Director to maintain compliance with our Joint Commission Disease Specific care certification. - Performs all duties to ensure certification compliance of standards including improving consensus determined metrics. - Participates/Reports at committees/ad hoc projects as determined. - Review/Update any diabetes related policies/procedures. - Serves the community by providing outpatient self-management education to people with diabetes Leads performance improvement processes, recognizing trends, driving changes as appropriate to improve patient outcomes.   Qualifications: - Minimum five (5) years clinical experience, required. - Minimum two (2) years teaching or education experience, required. - Experience with TJC disease specific care certification, preferred. - Demonstrated experience in the application of performance improvement methods, including PDCA, data collection and analysis, and reporting, required. - Understands concepts of reliability, outcomes management and fiscal integration, required. - Experience with CERNER EHR, preferred. - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (EXCEL, WORD, POWERPOINT, OUTLOOK), required. Education: - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, OR - Bachelor’s degree form an accredited college or university, providing a curriculum that has been approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), required. - Master’s degree in related field, preferred. Licenses: - Current California RN license, OR - Currently meets all requirements to be recognized as an RD or RDN as per California Code, Business and Professions Code - BPC § 2585. Licenses: - Valid CA drivers’ license required, Auto Insurance required (for Home Care position only). - Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, required.  Certification: - Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, required - CCS paneling for adolescents, pediatrics, and/or NICU required (or obtained within one year of hire) for dietitians providing cared for the CCS patient in the NICU or adolescent CCS patient.
